Linda leads out of the water at Ironman World Champs
By Linda GalloOctober 17, 2007
I had a great start at the Ironman swim on Saturday in
Kona and was able to get right to the front. I
drafted behind the lead guy on the way out to the turn
around boat. Then took the lead on the way back. It
was pretty sweet to be leading the whole Ironman swim
behind Laird Hamilton on a standup surfboard. As we
neared the end of the swim at the pier, one guy came
up on the left and sprinted me to the finish. He beat
me out of the water and I ended up being the first
woman and second overall out of the water. Ironman
isn't really about the swim finish, but this is the
second year in a row Francisco Pontano out sprinted me
to the finish after not pulling during the race.
Someone should tell him there's something to be said
for swim etiquette...
Check my journal in a few days for a full race report.
